From the road it looks like a house. It is one.
Vangelis turned an old village house in Polis into a restaurant in 1993. The stone arches, the floor and the timber roof beams are the house's own. Behind it, out of sight from the street, is the garden: tables under the vines, an old olive tree, and mint, lavender and oregano in the beds.
He is the chef as well as the owner, and a quiet one: he would rather you tasted the food than thanked him for it. The family runs the room. In summer dinner is in the garden; in winter it moves indoors, to the stone room and the fireplace.
